Dilaudid 2mg contains hydromorphone, a potent immediate-release prescription opioid used for pain severe enough to require an opioid when alternative treatments are inadequate.
Medical benefits include:
- Strong relief of severe acute pain
- Relatively fast pain control following surgery, serious injury, or during certain illnesses
- Improved comfort, rest, mobility, and recovery participation when severe pain is adequately controlled
The 2 mg strength may be used as an initial tablet strength, but dosing must be individualized and kept at the lowest effective amount.
Hydromorphone can cause drowsiness, nausea, constipation, dependence, addiction, overdose, and life-threatening slowed breathing, particularly during the first few days or following a dose increase.
Do not combine it with alcohol, alprazolam, clonazepam, morphine, oxycodone, GHB, sleeping medication, or other sedatives or opioids unless specifically managed by a clinician. If someone cannot be awakened or is breathing slowly or irregularly, administer naloxone if available and call 911 immediately.
